ST. ANN CHURCH | WINDWARD, O'AHU
For those familiar with my homilies, you know that I often speak about brokenness. Brokenness is the result of sin in the world. We have all experienced it—wounded by our own sinful choices and by the sinful choices of others against us. These wounds remain with us, and deep inside, we long to be healed.
Yet, instead of confronting our wounds, we often bury them deep within, pressing them down so no one can hurt us again. We try to cover them with careers, hobbies, human pleasures, and worldly achievements, hoping to fill the emptiness. But no matter how much we distract ourselves, the wounds remain.
C.S. Lewis writes:
"We avoid all entanglements; lock our brokenness up safe in the casket or coffin of our selfishness. But in that casket—safe, dark, motionless, airless—it will change. It will not be broken; it will become unbreakable, impenetrable, irredeemable. The alternative to tragedy, or at least to the risk of tragedy, is damnation. The only place outside of heaven where you can be perfectly safe from all the dangers and perturbations of love is hell."
Lewis reminds us that love requires vulnerability—it comes with the risk of pain and sorrow. But that’s the point. The only alternative is to close ourselves off, to refuse to love, and to remain alone. Yet deep in our souls, we know we were not created for such isolation.
This is why Christ came. He took on our humanity, embraced our brokenness, and offered us healing through the power of His love.
At the Healing Mass, Fr. Pat Crowley will lead us in prayer and reflection, guiding us to open our wounds to Christ’s healing light. We don’t have to remain trapped in our pain. We don’t have to carry the weight of our past any longer.
My friends, now is the time to bring your brokenness to Christ. Come and experience His healing touch at the Healing Mass on April 4th at 6 PM. Let this be the night you open your heart to His love, so that when Easter comes, you may share in the fullness of His Resurrection.
In Christ from Hemet,

THEME FROM OUR SUNDAY HOMILY
The proclamation of the Word of God is not merely a task but a sacred ministry within the Church. Lectors serve as instruments of God’s voice, bringing the living Word to the liturgical assembly. Through their proclamation, God Himself speaks to the gathered faithful, making His presence known.
Because of its sacred nature, this ministry must be undertaken with great reverence and dignity. The Word of God is not simply read during the liturgy—it is proclaimed with faith and conviction, yet without theatrical embellishment. Effective proclamation requires clarity, appropriate volume, and a measured pace, ensuring that the message is not just heard but truly received.
The proclamation of God’s Word is not reserved only for the ordained or a select few in the Church. By virtue of Baptism, all the baptized are called to proclaim the Good News. This ministry is a privilege and a responsibility, entrusted to those who are willing to prepare and proclaim with faith, allowing the Word to take root in their own lives before sharing it with others.
